Best websites to download free ringtones

I give close friends and family members their unique ringtone.   For my buddy Bill, it’s the tv theme sound of a save-the-world thriller to match his ‘can do’ attitude.  When they call me, I don’t have to look to see who’s on the caller ID.  I know immediately it’s someone i want to hear from and answer.

The benefit to having customized ringtones is that you can assign it to specific contacts on your phone so you know as soon as your phone rings, who is calling. Plus, it adds a zip in your day to hear some of your favorite sounds and songs.

Before we suggest going elsewhere, if you prefer to make your own customized ringtones from music or sound files you already have, feel free to follow along with this step-by-step guide we created here.

If that’s a little too DIY for you, scroll down further for websites that provide ways to download ringtones that are already customized for use on your phone.  Once you download those ringtones, follow the steps we wrote about in this article to install onto your device.

Tips for Safe Downloading

  • As these free sites constantly evolving with ads, popups and potentially suspicious links, we always recommend you have your antivirus software actively running in the background when you view and download from any of these sites.  If you don’t have antivirus software, consider my picks here.
  • Avoid Giving Personal Information: Be cautious about sites that ask for personal information before allowing downloads.

Zedge

With over 30 million active users and 436 million app downloads, there’s something for everyone on this site. The best thing is that the site offers both free and premium (paid) content. Their offering isn’t limited to just ringtones either. You can download wallpapers, live wallpapers as well as videos too. It’s easy to browse their website and preview ringtones if you don’t feel up to downloading their free app. After previewing the ringtone, you can simply click to download the ringtone for free. The website and its app is available for iOS and Android users.

Tones7

A straightforward website for ringtones and wallpapers for both iOS and Android users. It has a simple search bar at the top of the site so it is easy to get started. One of the benefits of the site is that most ringtones come with two separate options: one for iOS and another for Android. So unlike a universal ringtone, which you may have to convert to use, you can simply download the ringtone made for your phone. The only issue we had with this site is that it is a bit busy. It is sometimes hard to know if you’re clicking through to the ringtones and wallpapers or if you’re clicking on ads.

iTunesMachine

The iTunesMachine website’s interface is incredibly simple and the search box is easy to use. They have ringtones organized into a variety of relevant categories, in case you don’t know where to start. Not only are there popular tv show theme songs but also currently socially referenced tones such as TikTok related tones. They also have Bollywood tones if you want to download something with more of an international flair. You can see how many times a ringtone was downloaded before you go to download it too. It also allows you to select what type of phone you’re using so you have the choice of downloading ringtones for iOS or Android. This website also has a ‘Name Ringtone Maker’ function, which you can use to create your own ringtone that puts together your name spoken aloud, with an action prompt (“pick up the call”) along with the tone or song of your choosing.

Mobile24

In addition to wallpapers, themes, apps, videos, games, Mobile24 offers ringtones as well as a ringtone maker, which will turn any MP3 into a ringtone for Android or iOS. Simple, clean interface with popular categories for easy access. It also includes content for Blackberry, Symbian as well as Java. You can easily preview ringtones before downloading them in the format you need.

Notification Sounds

There are many websites with options for downloading ringtones but Notification Sounds does just that: provide sound files for notifications. These short sound clips can be downloaded in multiple formats, including Android, iOS and Windows. The interface is very simple and you can easily preview clips before downloading them in your preferred format. There are some broad categories to find sounds but there is no search option, which means you’d have to be willing to hunt for a sound file within the provided categories.

MyTinyPhone

One of the many nice features of this website is that in addition to being able to download free ringtones, you can send the ringtones directly to your phone via text or email. This cuts out the transferring step to get the ringtones from your desktop to your phone. The ability to text the ringtone also means you don’t have to download a separate app to get them on your phone. In addition to ringtone options for both Android and iOS, this site also offers wallpapers, games, and apps.

ToneTweet

The simple interface of the ToneTweet website makes it easy to navigate. It does include very recent, pop culture inspired ringtones such as ‘Baby Shark’. There, however, isn’t a way to preview the ringtone before you download it. It appears that the ringtones are created in the MP3 format, which means that if you download ringtones from ToneTweet and you are an iOS user, you would need to follow my step-by-step guide on how to customize ringtones in order for it to work on an iPhone.
