How to hide photos or videos on your phone

Has anyone ever taken your phone and started scrolling through your photos?

Not everything in your photo roll is meant to be seen.  Some photos may be super private and others meant only for your eyes.

Here’s an easy way to make those personal photos and videos private.  After this quick tip, I’ll show you how to unhide it for yourself to see.   It’s all part of a feature to hide photos or videos on your iPhone.  Scroll a little lower to see the similar quick tips for Android devices and Samsung phones.

 

How to hide photos or videos on your iOS devices

  • Click photos app
  • Select a photo or video
  • Click the share icon (square with arrow pointing up)

  • Scroll up and select “Hide”

  • A pop up comes up to confirm you want to hide it. Select “Hide photo” or “Hide video”

You’ll also note that if someone goes to your Albums folder and scrolls down, there’s an option that says “Hidden”.

So you’ll want to hide that too.  Here’s how:

  • Click Settings
  • Scroll down a bit, select “Photos”

  • Click “Hidden Album” and turn off

Now no one will find that album.

How to unhide hidden photos on your iPhoto

1) Be sure to turn the hidden album back on so that it’s now visible in your list of albums. (see above)

2) Go to “Hidden Album”.

  • Select the photo you want to unhide.
  • Click the share icon (square with arrow pointing up)
  • Scroll up and now select “Unhide”
  • A pop up comes up to confirm you want to reveal it. Select “Unhide photo” or “Unhide video” and the content will be restored and visible in your photos app again.



How to hide photos or videos on your Android

If you use Google Photos on your phone, you can use the archive feature to hide these photos or videos.

1) Select the photos or videos your want to archive and tap the circle in the upper left-hand corner of each thumbnail you want to hide. Once selected that photo will now have a blue checkmark.

2) Now tap the 3 dots in the upper right-hand part of your screen and select “Move to Archive” from the new drop-down menu.

  • Tap the Library icon at the bottom right part of the lower menu
  • Click the “Archive” button.
  • Tap and hold each photo you want to select
  • Click the 3 vertical dots in the upper right hand part of your screen and select “Unarchive”

How to hide photos or videos on your Samsung

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Biometrics and Security
  • Click Secure Folder
  • You may need to sign into your account
  • At this point, you can set up your Secure Folder and determine if you want it to appear in the app drawer.  You can configure settings here and can choose to use a pin number or your fingerprint and set it to lock automatically when the screen shuts off.
  • Now open your gallery app, find the photo or video you want to hide and tap and hold it.
  • Tap the 3 vertical dots at the bottom right three dots icon and “move to secure folder” from the drop down.

 

How to unhide photos or videos on your Samsung

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Biometrics and Security
  • Click Secure Folder you just set up above.  A few rows down you will see “Show Secure Folder” with a slider. 
  • Click it and slide to the left to hide (or unhide) the folder.
