I don't like the ideal of RFID Tech. I can see several problems with it that I have not seen addressed. For one thing, how is the RFID tag removed from the item if there is a self checkout. Seems that it just creates a line to have it removed. If it is just deactivated and not removed, how can I be sure that it is truly deactivated? Another thing is the automatically charged to a credit/debit card. However, if I am just getting one or two items, I may just want to pay for it with cash, not credit. Finally, I do not like the ideal of eliminating the printed receipt. That receipt can be used to help keep track of just how much has been charged to a credit card or account; it can be used to prove to the IRS that a purchase is a legitimate business expense; and it can be used to prove "proof of purchase". This is necessary if an item is to be returned, or if a person is accused of walking out of the store without paying for an item (such as if the RFID tag is not deactivated or removed when the item is bought--and it alerts the staff that the item has gone out of the door of the store. The receipt can eliminate potential problems.)--and yes, I have had experience with this several times.
