How to Remove Yourself from FamilyTreeNow

The genealogy website FamilyTreeNow.com is sharing your addresses, ages and names of your relatives.

Here’s what you need to do to remove yourself from the internet:

1) Visit https://www.familytreenow.com/optout and follow the instructions:

Step 1: After you click the ‘begin’ button at the bottom of that page, you will be taken to the search page. Run a search for yourself.

Step 2: After you have found yourself in the results, click on the record detail. Verify that this is yourself and not just someone else with your same name.

Step 3: After you are 100% sure this is your record, click the big red ‘Opt Out’ button that is on the page.

Step 4: You will receive an email with a link, click on the link to confirm your optout request.

Step 5: You are done. Please allow up to 72 hours for your request to be processed. Once it’s processed that record will be removed from all places on the site. Note: If you have multiple records that need to be removed, repeat steps 1-4.

The site claims your personal info will be hidden within 48 hours.  Do it now!

Not sure of your point on family tre article. Is the point of your article if you are a user of the software or anyone in the US? I feel like the article is missing some details.‎

Thank you Sam. I'm not sure what you think is missing. What I can tell you is that I am a big proponent of being able to rope in my privacy whenever I think it has run beyond any reasonable path and becomes accessible to people I'd rather not have access to my details. e.g. criminals etc By removing yourself from this site, you can regain some of the ever illusive privacy we should all expect. Thank you again for reaching out.

When I put in my information it always says not enough information, but when I look myself up it shows my address and email including my social media handles. Are there any other websites that you recommend?

Hi, Kurt! Tried to opt out from FamilyTreeNow, and after running through the instructions and referencing your instructions as well, no “red opt out” button was found. Do you think these guys changed their webpage to avoid losing records after you showed daylight on them?

Try this https://www.familytreenow.com/optout Follow instructions. They seemed to have streamlined it.
