Downloading this “free” copy of Adobe Acrobat will give you malware

Let’s face it.. you’ve searched for free items on the web including movies, shows, books, and even software.  And hackers know you’re looking for all of this and will create versions of the item you’re looking for and integrate malware.

This week, according to zscaler, malware has been found in pirated versions of the popular software Adobe Acrobat Pro and 7-Data Recovery suite.  The malware integrated into this software is known as “info-stealer malware” and can steal your passwords, credit card info and even record what you’re doing.

If you have downloaded any pirated version of the following, remove them immediately and run an antivirus scan:

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • 3Dmark
  • 3dVista Virtual Tour Pro
  • 7-Data Recovery Suite
  • Magix Sound Forge Pro
  • Wondershare Dr. Fone

How to protect yourself

  1. Don’t download illegal software.  When you attempt to do this, you are opening yourself up to threats.  Always download software from the official source.
  2. Always keep your iOS or Android software up to date
  3. Be sure to back up your files How to back up your Windows or Mac computer + How to back up your mobile devices
  4. By far the smartest protection is to install good security protection on all of your devices for the best protection.  My top pick is TotalAV (Limited time deal: $19 your first year (80% off).  More: Best Antivirus Protection in 2022 found here.

How my antivirus software protects me when I try to visit an illegal site to download this illegal software

After searching for this illegal software by typing “adobe acrobat pro reader cracked” into my Google browser, Google presented me with a number of results.  Because I had my TotalAV software installed, when I clicked the link, I immediately got this screen.  If you ever have any doubt, my antivirus software always acts as a safeguard.
