After a week of tumultuous weather, where a widespread storm caused havoc across the South with tornado warnings and high winds disrupting lives in Florida, and another storm covered the Midwest in over six inches of snow, it’s clear that staying informed about the weather is more crucial than ever.
As winter’s icy grip tightens its hold across parts of the country, affecting everything from daily commutes to political campaigns, finding reliable weather apps becomes very important. Let’s take a look at the 5 weather apps we recommend for being accurate, reliable, and easy to use.
1. Weather
The weather app is a built-in application that comes with every iPhone. It provides you with current and forecaster weather info for various locations around the world. You can add, delete, or rearrange the cities you want to see on the app. The app also shows the temperature, humidity, wind speed, UV index, and air quality for each location. You can tap on a city to see more details, such as hourly and daily forecasts, sunrise and sunset times, and precipitation chances. The app also integrates with Siri, So you can ask questions like “What’s the weather going to be like today?” or “Do I need an umbrella today?”
You can also customize notifications which enable notifications for severe weather and next-hour precipitation. You must allow the app to track your location at all times to get the most accurate notifications. However, your information is always kept private. Here’s how to enable notifications on the iOS Weather app:
- Go to your Settings app
- Scroll down and select Weather
- Tap location – it’s underneath where it says ALLOW WEATHER TO ACCESS
- Tap Always
- Then tap <Weather in the left corner of your phone
- Tap Notifications
- Toggle on Enable Notifications or Allow Notifications on newer phones
