I am skeptical. I’m a native born Hawaiian and an engineer by profession. Additionally, I sailed (racing) for 40 years.
The Pacific Ocean around Hawaii is not a calm, peaceful place. With the dominant NE trade winds at 25 knots almost all of the time, and a totally open fetch, the open ocean water can be very rough. I question whether these environmental conditions have been factored in.
With lumpy, cresting wave conditions, will this craft operate?
Also, from the attaches photos, the craft shown seems very small, resulting in a small paying passenger load.
Where is the electric power coming from? The power system in Hawaii is already stressed. With all these “electric operations” (cars, planes, etc.) nobody seems to consider this aspect.
Having owned beachfront properties in past years, I experienced how corrosive salt water, ocean spray and even salt air is. Corrosion from the elements will wreak havoc with electrical components and their connections. I would be hesitant to invest my money in this concept.
I wish media would stop with the good for the environment gaslighting. Any ev has batteries and the production path from batting r the raw materials; manufacturing process (including the amount of energy required); to the requirements to provide for charging batteries. EV of any kind are anything but good for the planet.
