- Amazon Prime costs $139 a year, so it helps to know which perks you actually use.
- Prime benefits can include savings on delivery, groceries, prescriptions, fuel, books and food delivery.
- Coupons, Lightning Deals and Amazon Resale can lower prices, but comparison shopping still matters.
- Prime is most valuable when you stack several benefits instead of using it only for shipping.
If you use Amazon Prime mostly for fast shipping, you may be missing some of the membership’s best money-saving tools. Prime still costs $139 a year or $14.99 a month in the U.S., so it is worth asking a simple question: Are you getting enough value back?
That answer depends on how you shop. Some Prime perks can help with groceries, prescriptions, fuel, food delivery, cloud photo storage, books and everyday household items. Others sound helpful, but only make sense if you actually use them.
And with Prime Day 2026 running from June 23 through June 26, now is a good time to check which Prime benefits are worth using before you buy.
Why Amazon Prime may still be worth it
Amazon Prime is no longer just about two-day shipping. The membership now includes a mix of delivery perks, streaming, shopping discounts, pharmacy savings and family sharing features. The key is knowing which perks can actually save you money and which ones you are unlikely to use. Here are 15 Amazon Prime benefits worth checking before your next order.
1) Amazon Photos: Unlimited cloud storage for Prime Members
Amazon Prime members can take advantage of Amazon Photos. Amazon Photos offers unlimited storage for Prime members, along with 5 GB free for video storage. That can be useful if your phone is always running out of space or you are paying for extra cloud storage elsewhere.
You can access your photos on the Amazon Photos App, available for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. You can also use devices like a Fire TV, Echo Show, or Fire tablet.
Amazon Photos also offers prints, photo gifts, and cards with free shipping for all Prime members. Try Amazon Photos to order your next family vacation photo book, or make cards for any occasion using your own uploaded pictures.
This is not a reason by itself to pay for Prime. But if you already have the membership, it is a perk worth using.
2) Flexible Amazon Delivery: Same-Day, 2-Day, and Amazon Day Options
Almost anyone who has heard of Amazon Prime knows about 2-day shipping. While shipping times can always vary, many cities and states offer more delivery options than just 2-day.

Same-day delivery
If your order is over $35 of qualifying purchases, your same-day Amazon delivery is free for Prime members in select cities only. Availability may be limited on certain days because of weather, local events, traffic or product availability. Delivery is only $2.99 if your total is less than $35.00, and thousands of items qualify. Check for items that are eligible for delivery “Today” as you’re shopping on Amazon, and select Same-Day Delivery during checkout. Check your zip code to see if your area offers same-day delivery as well.

Amazon Day Delivery
Choose which days you prefer to have your packages delivered for free with Amazon Day Delivery. You can choose up to 2 days in many areas and make that your preferred option for delivery. Then, as you shop throughout the week, those packages can come together in fewer shipments, use fewer boxes and arrive on days you know you’ll be home. That can mean fewer porch deliveries and less time worrying about packages sitting outside.
3) Amazon Household: Share Prime benefits with your family
You can share your Amazon Prime account benefits with members of your household through Amazon Household. This setup allows two adults to share select Prime benefits and digital content. Amazon also supports child profiles and some teen features, although teen benefit rules have changed over time.
The biggest thing to know is that both adults in an Amazon Household must agree to share certain payment information. So this is best for people in the same household who already trust each other financially. Used the right way, Amazon Household can help avoid paying for two separate Prime memberships.
4) Amazon Pharmacy & RxPass: Affordable prescriptions delivered
Amazon is making it easier to avoid waiting in lines to pick up those prescription bottles with Amazon Pharmacy, which is a prescription drug home delivery service. Amazon Pharmacy accepts most major insurance plans and offers low prices on medication, free delivery with Prime and 24/7 access to pharmacists.
Prime members can also use RxPass, which offers access to eligible generic medications for a flat $5 monthly subscription. This can be useful for people who take covered medications and pay more than that out of pocket.
Once you’ve provided your list of current medications, you can enter your insurance information and the prescriber’s name, if applicable. Then Amazon Pharmacy offers you upfront pricing and supply options. With your Amazon Prime account, shipping is free and fast. Best of all, you can manage your meds, track your order and control the settings for each account in your household.
Before switching, compare your current pharmacy price, insurance price and Amazon’s price. Also, check whether your exact medication is eligible.
5) Whole Foods Prime discount: Save 10% on sale items in-store
If you shop at Whole Foods, Amazon gives Prime members an extra 10% off on sale items at their physical stores. You can download the Whole Foods app on your phone and log in with your Amazon Prime account. When you’re ready to check out, scan the code, and you’ll receive your discount, or you can also use your phone number to get the discount at checkout. Additionally, you can also receive a 2-hour delivery of your Whole Foods groceries, as noted here, but this service is only available in select ZIP codes and requires a minimum order of $35.00.
6) Amazon coupons: Hidden discounts you can clip before checkout
While you can find all sorts of coupons by brands on this page, be sure to look out for coupons that are available on the specific product page you are looking to purchase. Be sure to clip the coupon to get the discount, as it will not be automatically added to your purchase.
You can also browse Amazon’s coupons page by category. This can be useful for household goods, pet supplies, health items, cleaning products and groceries. One warning: A coupon does not always mean the final price is the best price. Compare before you buy, especially on bigger purchases.
7) Lightning deals: Daily limited-time Amazon Prime discounts
Check out this Today’s Deal page and be sure to bookmark it! You will find last-minute, quick sales on certain items on this page. Be sure to act quickly before it sells out!
This can be useful during Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But do not buy something just because the timer is running. A countdown clock can make a normal discount feel more urgent than it really is.
A good rule: If you did not need it before you saw the deal, pause before you click buy.
8) Amazon Warehouse deals: Save on open-box and refurbished items
Amazon Warehouse has millions of open boxes, refurbished, renewed, and used goods. Few know that retail giant Amazon has a renewed outlet shopping area that can save you when buying items in good to like-new condition.
Amazon now also uses the Amazon Resale name for many open-box, used and returned products. These items can include electronics, home goods, tools, kitchen items, pet supplies and more.
Make sure you get a very good understanding of an item’s condition before buying. You are protected by Amazon’s policies, making it easier to return the rare dud.
Look for terms such as “Like New,” “Very Good” or “Acceptable.” Also check whether the original packaging, accessories or manuals are included.
This can be a smart place to save, but it is not where I would blindly buy every product. Be more careful with items where wear, missing parts or battery health matter.
9) $0 food delivery fees with Grubhub+
Amazon Prime members receive a Grubhub+ membership as part of their Prime membership. Grubhub+ benefits include no delivery fees on eligible orders, reduced service fees and other offers.
This can be useful if you already order food delivery. If you rarely do, it is more of a nice extra than a major savings tool. Also, remember that service fees, small order fees and tips can still apply. Always check the final total before placing an order.
10) Unlock Prime Gaming’s hidden freebies
Get free monthly games, in-game loot and a Twitch channel subscription with Prime Gaming. Great for gamers who stream or want exclusive content. This perk is easy to overlook if you are not a gamer. But for households with gamers, it can add value without another subscription. The offers change often, so check the Prime Gaming page before buying a game or in-game add-on elsewhere.
11) Amazon Music Prime: Ad-free streaming plus music unlimited discounts
Prime includes Amazon Music Prime, with ad-free songs and podcasts. Members can also upgrade to Music Unlimited at a discounted rate. This is a good section to review if you already pay for another music service. You may not want to switch, but it is worth comparing what you actually use each month.
12) Prime Reading & First Reads: Free eBooks and early book access
With Prime Reading, Amazon Prime members enjoy a rotating catalog of popular ebooks, magazines, comics, and audiobooks – all included at no extra cost. It’s a great way to discover bestselling titles and hidden gems without needing a separate subscription. Plus, with Amazon First Reads, members get early access to one or more new ebooks each month – often before they’re officially published. Whether you’re into thrillers, memoirs, or children’s stories, there’s always something fresh to explore on any device.
You can read on any Kindle e-reader, or simply download the free Kindle app on your phone, tablet, or computer. Whether you’re commuting, traveling, or reading in bed, it’s easy to take your books anywhere.
This perk is especially useful for casual readers who want something new without paying for every title.
13) Prime fuel savings: Save at the pump every time you fill up
Amazon Prime members can save 10 cents per gallon at participating gas stations when they link their Amazon and earnify accounts.
That may not sound huge, but it can add up for commuters or families with multiple cars. You will need to activate the offer and follow the redemption steps.
Check the terms before filling up because participating stations and promotional offers can change.
14) Amazon Live & Prime early access: Shop deals before they drop
Amazon Prime members can unlock exclusive savings through Amazon Live, a real-time shopping experience featuring limited-time deals, product demos and early access offers hosted by experts, influencers and celebrities.
During big sale events like Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Amazon often releases deals early through Amazon Live, giving Prime members a head start on hot-ticket items. You can interact with hosts, ask questions about products and shop directly from the stream.
For Prime Day 2026, which runs June 23 through June 26, compare prices before you buy. Use a price tracker or check other retailers because not every Prime Day deal is automatically the lowest price.
Pro tip: Follow your favorite creators or categories on the Amazon Live page to get notified when deals go live.
15) Secure & convenient home access with Amazon Key
Prime members can use Amazon Key, which allows in-garage delivery in eligible areas with compatible smart garage equipment. This can help keep packages out of sight and away from bad weather.
For some households, that convenience is worth it. For others, letting a delivery driver access a garage may feel like too much. If you use Amazon Key, review the privacy settings, camera options and delivery history. You should also make sure every adult in your home is comfortable with the setup.

Kurt’s key takeaways
Amazon Prime has grown far beyond fast shipping. Some perks can save real money, especially if you use Whole Foods, Amazon Pharmacy, Grubhub+, Amazon Photos, Prime Reading or fuel savings. But Prime only works in your favor if you use the benefits you are already paying for. The best way to judge it is simple: Add up what you actually use, then compare that value with the membership cost.
