A deepfake video of Ukraine President Zelenskyy went undetected on both YouTube and Facebook creating the first major deepfake weapon of war. Despite social media platforms having the resources to stop harmful misinformation like this, neither platform prevented it from going viral before deciding to remove it. By then the damage was done as the world watched the fake video of Pres. Zelenskyy seeming to surrender. Only later did the real Zelenskyy take to twitter trying to reassure citizens that he is “not going to lay down any weapons”.
