Kurt’s Favorite Things for Mom: A Holiday Tech Gift Guide

by Kurt Knutsson

They fit in her handbag. They make her life better. And frankly, any gift like these will hit it out of the park with Mom.

#1 Samsung Galaxy Note8

It’s the display she’ll love. The Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ all have a beautiful, immersive infinity display with no buttons on the front. i love the Galaxy Note 8 the most for the largest screen possible for watching video, searching the web and gaming. All have the latest camera technology. All have the fastest wireless charging yet and are dust and water resistant.

#2 Samsung SSD Portable Drive

Most of the time, my mom thinks she needs a new computer when it’s the storage onboard becomes full. Not so fast, a simple storage solution of adding an external drive can free up the space to make her computer keep going for years. Samsung SSD Portable Drive fits easily into mom’s handbag, incredibly fast solution thats made for on the go storage. The 500GB T5 can transfer 100 photos in just 3 seconds. Samsung SSD Portable Drive $125 for 250GB and up to $799 for 2TB

#3 Netgear Orbi Router wifi system

Just named the best wifi system by cnet. Innovative trick-band wifi system is similar to a wired ethernet connection. And talk about super simple, the Orbi router system operates at 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz that all devices can be connected under one name. The setup is easy peasy since it works with your internet provider right out of the box. I also like the guest network to allow access to visitors at home without divulging your home password to others. If you have a larger home, it is easy to expand the Orbi WiFi systerm with additional add-ons.  Netgear Orbi router system $299

#4 Lenovo Tab 4 Plus 10” Edition

This may be a gift for mom, but the whole family will end up using it. This is the ultimate family tablet. It’s built with entertainment in mind, perfect for binge-watching TV shows. Mom can give everyone in the family their own account and setting which makes it personalized for each family member. Enhanced fingerprint access make is easy to share and fast to switch between each other. Add on the Home Assistant pack and make the Tab 4 a voice-activated assistant with a screen. Lenovo Tab 4 Plus starts $279

#5 Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer

Beauty doesn’t come cheap. And this is perhaps the most expensive hair dryer on the planet and at the same time getting tremendous reviews from professional salons and hair stylists. It could be the 105MPH airflow that eliminates the need for too much heat that could otherwise damage hair. The digital motor spins 6 times faster than other hair dryer motors. it is so quiet and frankly a work of art that only Dyson knows how to pull off. Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer $399

I like the idea of the Samsung external storage, because of the size, but I have an external drive that is 1TB that was less than $100. Yes, it’s bigger – but I guess the size is worth the price tradeoff. At least for me.
